I do however check and double check everything before I pack up the car. Once the car is packed I’ll shower and replace my shorts and t-shirt with shirt and trousers. Now feeling fresh and confident, I’ll drive to the venue resisting the temptation to pull over and check my equipment one more time!!
I’m normally at least 30 minutes to an hour early, so I can take a look around the venue, meet any staff and introduce myself to the wedding manager or planner.
Now it’s time to knock on the bride to be’s door. I will have already met the couple, so instead of introductions, it’s more like “come in Matt, we’re all decent, meet my Mum”. I don’t get the cameras out straight away, I’ll ask for details (invitations, shoes, rings, perfume, flowers and anything else important or paid for by the couple). After shooting these details the people in the room will be used to me being there and happy for me to capture some moments between them, as they get ready.
The rest of the day absolutely fly’s by, it’s so easy when you love what you do! After capturing the moments and memories of the day, I really enjoy packing away most of my equipment and limiting myself to one camera and flash to capture some dance floor action.
After congratulating the couple and saying my goodbyes, it’s a drive home, but I’m not quite done yet! I like to back up my images onto multiple hard drives before I hit the sack!!
